About Us
Hadassah. Your choice for today. Your legacy for tomorrow. The Glastonbury Chapter of Hadassah began in 1981. Our chapter has its roots in women who believe in Hadassah's work in Israel and the U.S. Through the years we have raised many funds for all of Hadassah's different medical, educational, environmental, youth and advocacy programs. Our chapter became revitalized in 2003 when it re-formed with both new and past members who once again share the strong vision of Hadassah and wish to help raise funds in support of its life changing work.
Today, we are a very diverse group of women of all ages who share a strong common interest in Hadassah. It is about the actions we take, the choices we make and the values we share.
We aspire to many different values such as:
- Advocacy:
Hadassah speaks out in Washington and our state capitols on behalf of reproductive freedom, separation of church and state, preventing discrimination based on genetic information, family medical leave, hate crimes and other issues of importance to American women and Jews.
- Compassion:
Learn about and support the latest in medicine and research in Israel through our hospitals, research facility and medical schools.
- Empowerment:
Hadassah believes in the potential of women. Institutes, workshops, Young Women/Young Leader programs and the Hadassah Leadership Academy make that potential a reality.
- Friendship:
Discover lifelong friendships with women who share your passion.
- Heritage:
Learn Hebrew, study liturgy of the prayer book, gain a new understanding of Judaism’s approach to life and learn about the diversity of Jewish women throughout the world.
- Honor:
The history of Hadassah is a history of active women who pursued goals according to many of the values that we believe are important. Each time a woman exercises her right and responsibilities, she earns a place in the book of life as a woman of valor.
- Israel:
Help repair the world by being part of our important work in Israel, the Hadassah Medical Organization, Youth Aliyah/children at risk, Hadassah College Jerusalem, and the Career Counseling Institute. - Knowledge:
Hadassah continues the great tradition of Jewish education by making it possible for members to increase their knowledge and expand intellectual horizons through book clubs and other programs.
- Peoplehood:
Our support of Young Judaea, America’s leading Zionist Youth Movement, dedicated to instill Jewish values, Jewish pride, and a lifelong commitment to Israel and the Jewish people.
- Pride:
Improve the world around you through programs that educate teenagers on the importance of breast self-examination, teach how to advocate for those in need of constant care, raise awareness of the importance of organ donation, or support women in need through the Hadassah Foundation.
- Tzedakah:
Hadassah has programs for donors at all levels. Leave a lasting mark by contributing.
As well as Volunteerism, Passion, Peace, Diversity, Family, Hadassah and Tikkun Olam.
The family of Hadassah women is a living legacy -- the kind of inheritance
that takes on a life of its own as it moves from generation to
generation. Out of the legacy we have received, comes a legacy we are
creating. Together we indelibly link the gifts of the past to the
richness of the current moment. Together we transform our todays into
more meaningful, safe and healthy tomorrows. |
